Vitamin D3 Important for Male and Female Health

Two recent studies indicate higher levels of vitamin D are associated with a reduced risk of breast and prostate cancer.

In the newest of the two studies, researchers investigated the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels (a measurement of vitamin D3 levels in the body) and the incidence rates of breast cancer in 107 countries. The researchers also looked at the number of breast cancer cases that occurred at varying latitudes since past studies have found lower breast cancer rates in areas that receive higher amounts of sunlight. The lower breast cancer rate in these areas is thought to be attributable to the fact that the skin makes vitamin D from sunlight.

The researchers of the current study found that breast cancer incidence rates were substantially higher at latitudes distant from the equator. Furthermore, increasing increments in serum 25(OH)D in the range above 22 ng/mL were associated with incrementally lower incidence rates of breast cancer.

The researchers concluded, “There was a protective effect of UVB irradiance on risk of breast cancer that was independent of fertility rate, proportion of the population overweight, alcohol intake, animal energy intake, and other covariates.”

Another study conducted two months’ prior to the breast cancer study confirms a growing body of evidence that vitamin D is just as important for male health and that its effects on cancer may be due in part to its antioxidant activity.

Overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), through either endogenous or exogenous sources, is known to induce DNA damage, and accumulation of DNA damage can lead to cancer. Many epidemiological and in vitro and in vivo laboratory studies have found vitamin D to have antioxidative effects.

Researchers have now found that vitamin D3 acts as an antioxidant in prostate cells, protecting nonmalignant human prostate cell lines from oxidative stress-related death. In malignant human prostate cells, however, vitamin D3 acted as a pro-oxidant, encouraging the death of cancerous cells.

“The antioxidative effect of vitamin D3 strengthens its roles in cancer chemoprevention and adds to a growing list of beneficial effects of vitamin D3 against cancer,” the researchers concluded.

Because there is still concern over the increase in skin cancer after exposure to the sun, scientists suggest that relying on supplements to obtain vitamin D3 may be a better option then over exposure to the sun.

Supply of hospital pharmacies operating externally due to cost savings will continue to grow all over the next years. Even today, 90% of all pharmacies pribolnichnyh organized in cooperation provisioning This shows that the Canadian pharmacy online has become not take seriously the business partner compared with the pharmaceutical industry. However, the development of recent years shows that the industry sees its price registration stronger with the number of sales, thus strengthening the competitiveness of supplying hospital pharmacies in the long term due to more efficient logistics and a lot of sales.
